Reveal Day Before & After!

Its reveal day for my first custom client project.
I feel so excited to post about it.

As I said in a blog post a while back, my friend/client/hairdresser purchased this antique piece from a friend of hers.  She bought it for her 2 year old daughter's new big girl room.  I felt so honored to be trusted with such a beautiful piece that I knew she would be keeping around for a long time.  I was anxious and excited at the same time to get to work on it.

It was beautiful before.......

We went back and forth on the plan and how brave we wanted to go with it.  Sometimes when  a piece is this pretty to start with, its hard to imagine it all revamped with a fresh new look.  I knew it would be fun project.  My friend and I had some great ideas to make it stand out, but in the end we decided to keep it classic so that the piece could be pretty transitional in her new home without having to redo it again.

We went with an antique white in color with a coffee glaze and heavy distressing.  I was so excited to see how it all turned out.

Here is a little info about the process

First things first, I taped off the mirrors as to not hurt the beautiful natural aging of the mirror on this piece.  It was gorgeous, so I took special care not to touch it with a drop of paint.

Next it was time for paint.  I did 3 to 4 full coats of antique white paint on the piece to make sure and get a lasting coverage.

After the three coats of paint, I stood back and took a look and thought it was a little boring.  I couldn't wait to go after all this great detail with a coffee glaze.

And so I did.  Isn't the difference amazing! A dark glaze makes those details just PoP!

I ended up glazing the whole piece rather than just the details.  I felt like this piece had a lot of character and aging it by glazing helped to give it back some of that special stuff.
After glazing and distressing with my sander and smoothing down the surfaces with sand paper.  I put 3 coats of sealant on the piece to make sure it could take some wear and tear.

I let it dry overnight and TA DA!  The finished piece with hardware and all! Its is gorgeous!  The picture truly doesn't do it justice! I love it so much and I hope that my client will as well.

My NeSt selfie!  Hi there! Just wanted to get a straight on shot of it which can be tricky when there are mirrors involved.

A close up of the glazing and hardware.  I believe the client is going to add her own hardware that she already picked out, but I just had to dress her up all fancy while she was still in my possession.

And a final close up of the heavy distressing. This particular client wanted very heavy distressing.  This is how I like my pieces as well, so that worked out very easily with me. I love the irony of an antique piece with gorgeous bling hardware on it that has heavy distressing. Its so unexpected which makes it so special to me.

And there you have it!  The before and after and a sneak peak at a how to refresh your furniture.

I hope you like it!  I love it!

Thanks for stopping by my NeSt!

DIPPED

I'm usually not much of a trend follower. I like what I like and  I know it when I like it.

I can be a very quick decision maker when it comes to decor because of this.  I usually already have what I want in my head and when I see it, I know it, and its as good as done.

This dipped furniture trend "I LIKE"

Not every version of it, but these I think were done really well.

I'm not sure what I love more, the planked wall or the pastel dipped stools.

I do pieces like this all of the time, who wants to go for the gold dip to spice if up a bit?

These chairs, I love, dipped or not dipped, but dipped is certainly fun.  The dog is super cute too don't ya think?

A lot of furniture revampers are pegged as "Shabby Chic" in style. I wouldn't be so quick to call myself that. I have a love for all things rustic, but I also think they take on a whole new life when you pair rustic with modern or industrial.  This pic is a perfect example of that. Those dipped stools make the whole thing work.

Again, something I do all of the time, just blingalicious! (my new word)
.

One of my favorite blogger's, Holly, at IN THE FUN LANE, does it again.  So simple and elegant yet unexpected.

Love these. Want one.  Melaine at MY SWEET SAVANNAH, my favorite blog, did a DIY that turned out so cute.  I might be dipping a tree stump as soon as I can find one.

Pastel perfection.  Industrial table.......see what I mean.

My very favorite piece I found.  So "NEST" if you will. I might have to do this one for myself.

Have an IKEA stool that just needs something done.  DIP IT!

So what do we think?

YOU DIP, I DIP, WE DIP?

Thanks for stopping by my NEST!

Don't Throw It Away!

This weekend I was picking up my kiddos at my sweet In-Laws house after they gave my Husband and I a nice (and needed) date night. I was walking out and there was the cutest little stool just sitting there begging for me to steal it. I told her that I had some fun ideas for it and she commented   "Oh,  I was just going to throw it away."

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

If you know me, NEVER throw anything wooden that resembles furniture away!

Let me show you why.........

A simple unfinished REAL WOOD stool can be so many things.  Who doesn't need an extra seat now and then, or a plant stand, or a extremely small side table for a itty bitty space to set your glass?

A lot of the newer houses are doing these countertop/islands that extend out over the cabinetry to allow for a serving area or a "pull up a stool and sit" area.

This is a perfect opportunity to add a pop of color or a rustic twist to an otherwise sleek and rather industrial space.

SEE...........

I see these stools everywhere for super cheap.  If the Mohogany wood isn't your thing, call NEST and we can add color and make it spectacular.

This is what I have in mind for the Mother In Law's cute stool.

Or this.......

So cute......

I'm always a sucker for the grainsack look.  This is padded, but NEST could paint this on too.

Another pop of color with a French twist.

Staining fun.

Love all of these ideas.  They could add so much personality to your room.

SO NEVER THROW THEM AWAY!

Thanks for stopping by my NEST

For the Love of Hardware

Hardware is to a piece of redone furniture as jewelry is to an outfit! Does that make sense?

I LOVE HARDWARE!

Like, in a weird way........way more than the average bear loves hardware!

Anthro is by far the very best hardware supplier in my book.  If you can afford it that is.....

Hobby Lobby and World Market do a legit job of second place on the roster, but Anthro always takes the top prize for me.

Let me show you why.........

Let's say you've got a piece like this for instance.....redone by yours truly.  Yes, you could put the same hardware back on and save yourself some cash.......
OR........You could add these beautiful baubles to it to make it something out of this world!  I literally start drooling when I think about it all put together.

Then there is another example......the beloved Kelly Green.

Gold hardware looks nice.....and simple......, but if you want to make it a WOW!  Imagine the addition of these pretty little ladies.

With the turquoise........I literally die thinking about it!

Or a Mono look.......Love!

Then there is an elegant touch of something bright and white.....

And my VERY favorite of all.......the Mother of Pearl with Gold detail........(foaming at the mouth)

The Red piece looks great and rustic with the black details.......but imagine how chic it would be with..........

I'm sorry, but when I see these with the red, I just feel like its meant to be.....are you catching on now how I dress my furniture with hardware as if its jewelry to my outfit.

The classic white with glazed piece is gorgeous by itself.

But then imagine it with some unexpected bling.  It takes it up a whole other notch for me.  Its like rustic meet chic.......and that is my description of heaven.

Ok, so this blue piece is one I'm dying to get in my own home somehow. I'm just a bit terrified of having the paint color ALL over me forever.  It looks like a pretty messy job.

But then I think about adding this hardware to it and its just too pretty not to try.

I'm loving this slate blue, and the pulls they have are pretty darn magical!

Loving it even more with the addition of these fancy little knobs.

So, do you see what I mean?

Isn't it lovely?

Like I said before, adorning your piece in this particular hardware can add $$$$ to the cost of the redo, but in some cases, I think its sooooo worth it.  Anthro knobs and pulls go for approximately $12 a piece. Which adds up super fast.  However, Hobby Lobby and World Market both have great options as well for a fraction of that price.

I should know, I have a small "jewelry" collection just waiting for the right piece to come along to adorn.

Thanks for stopping by and  hope you enjoyed my NEST!
